Animus - a new monster for D&D 5th edition

Animus

Animus are special undead created by evil Clerics of Hextor with the help of devils and other hellish creatures. They were killed and then brought back from the Death by orders of Ivid V, Overking of the Great Kingdom of Aerdy.

Animus appear like humans with with tainted skin, prematurely aged but stronger and more resilient than the normal. Some of them (around 25%) are so revolting, after the transformation, that their CHA is 6 and they wear masks to hide their real appearence. A few of them instead (10%) are identical to a middle aged human.

Cold and Ruthless.  Animus are fueled by cold determination, hate and cruel ambition. They want to rule with an iron fist and to inflict pains upon the weakest di odio e di crudele ambizione. Vogliono a tutti i gusti governare col pugno di ferro e infliggere sofferenze ai deboli.

Power and Command. In thei lives, Animus were nobles, generals or ministers of the generali Great Kingdom of Aerdy and they still hold their role as undead. Therefore they have a lot of servants, soldiers, guards, mages and lieutnants who work and fight at their orders. Many rule tyrannically with harsh brutality while many others are more measured and tempered even if a cold hate fuel burns inside them. A few Animus have developed a kind of irony and cinicism which allow them to mantain a courtly and society life almost normal.

Society Life. Animus are torn between their desire of solitude and social duties of their role. Animus haven't any friends nor have need for love, famili or company as well as to drink to eat or to have any other pleasure of the body.

Hate and Paranoia. Animus are lead by hate, rage and vengeance, as well as all other motivations they had in life and are not incompatible with their current status: power, wealth, war, bloodlust. Animus hate their status and hate living creatures because they remind them their previous life. animus are so obsessed that see enemies, real or imaginary, all around them.

Creation. The method of creation is unknown. Hextor's Clerics used a modified version of resurrection spell and, with devils, worked on body and soul of a corpse just killed to modify its physical and spiritual abilities. Ivid wanted loyal and determined servants, who would had obeyed his orders without doubts. But something went wrong and Animus developed an indipendet personality, free from the Overking's control.

Magical Items. Animus often have magical items and use them.
